Ma-n-Pop Soul Food in Brooklyn

I was attacked by the manager of this restaurant after receiving a counterfeit 10$ bill from them as change from my 50. Mind u this was after being given the wrong food and having to switch it .

Very cool small little place with great food! Expect to wait here, as they're often busy. Staff is friendly, food is great, and worth the wait!

Food is decent and very inexpensive. I've been several times and one of my issues with this place is they ALWAYS run out of something. Once it was cornbread, another time, lemonade, another time mac & cheese. How the hell you run outta mac and cheese at a SOUL FOOD establishment?!?!The wait staff and cooks seem to be the same person sometimes. The last time I went it took over 30 minutes from the time we ordered to the time the food arrived. The place is cozy and there were hardly any patrons. The resturants around them had lines out the door.No restrooms. Better go before you get there. I don't understand how they get away with not having a bathroom in an eat in restuarant. Not bad but definitely room for improvement.

The food was good, but the wait was ridiculous. This place is also very, very small, & it doesn't have a bathroom. They need to hire more staff, if they want to contend with any practical business...Like I said the food is good & flavorful, but the wait, space & the unavailability of a restroom, left a bitter taste in my mouth.

I’m a southerner and I can honestly say I enjoyed the food. Everything was amazing from the customer service to the food ! I can tell they took their time and made the food with good energy!🙌🏾

Small Bed-Stuy eatery w homey atmosphere. Had breakfast, 2 pieces of fried catfish, grits and scrambled egg w cheddar cheese. Everything was delicious! Ate everything and felt satiated for hours. Caught the itis and laid down for a couple hours afterwards. The banana pudding, a nice heap for $6 is so flavorful and fresh! One of the best I have ever tasted! The place is always packed and the wait for take out food is longer than most, but the meal is worth it. Everything must be made fresh daily because they run out of choices of sides by 12 pm. Ordered pork chop dinners w 2 sides, yams and Mac, that I ate later that evening. I thought the pork chop would be smothered, but it was fried. It was ok, but I think I'll stick with the catfish. Not everyone can cook it and they cook it to perfection!

Great food for very reasonable price! I loved the meatloaf and yams especially. My friend from Europe also enjoyed his plate. A great place to show him a part of US culture outside of the touristy part of NYC.

Nice quaint restaurant, not a lot of seats so get there early. Appears to be family owned. We ordered the catfish, grits and eggs, pancakes, and grits and chips. Everything was well seasoned and cooked good. We will definitely be back.

Food was really good. Great soul food. Service a little slow. Small place. Sshhh no bathroom. I had to book to the gas station after leaving restaurant. But I will go again

Update: I've checked in on Yelp 10 times. What I order never disappoints. Just happy I can get takeout after work now since my schedule has changed. Old: love the fact that they serve ham hocks as a main meat! Although I can make my own, there's something about going to a soul food spot and ordering from them..nostalgia!

Good Brunch Food and Awesome Service

I sincerely love this place. The decor is pretty cool retro and positive vibes it makes me feel like I’m home at granny’s house. I warn you the wait time is a bit cray but good food takes time. But the price, portion and ambiance is worth it. I’m a big fan of their catfish or whiting (Super crispy and flavorful even better with hotsauce), collard greens (flavorful and delicious), mash potatoes (flavorful and mashed to perfection with the just right amount of gravy), burgers (well done and flavorful). It’s a cozy dim lit space with a dope staff that are welcoming and makes you feel right at home. Certainly one of my go to spots when I need a good vibe meal that’ll make my soul smile. #flavah

My first visit to Ma-N-Pop on May 27th. Cute little space. Nice ppl, clean place. I had the chicken and waffles. It was soooo good. I definitely recommend this play and it's haven't seen the last of me. Lol 👌🏿💯

The worst service I have ever had in Bedstuy. This is a black owned restaurant and I was looking forward to supporting them. My 9 month pregnant wife and I waited almost an hour to be served. They had a terrible attitude and when I asked about my food, they shared that they are focusing on the Grubhub and other orders. My advice, DO NOT EAT THERE! NO RESPECT FOR CUSTOMERS, PREGNANT WOMEN OR PEOPLE OF COLOR!

Great food, an real soul food atmosphere.

I had breakfast for the first time. The food was amazing. I was thoroughly surprised. I will definitely be adding this restaurant to one of my faves to go to.

When you're from the south and craving comfort food, this absolutely hit the spot. Delicious, well-priced, and a very welcoming atmosphere.

Never again Turkey wings was too big too much pepper I dont put carrots in my cabbage all you taste is spicy in everything. You are not supposed to put cold salda on hot plate together. I'm going back to sea food heaven.

Love the decor of this spot! Inspiring leaders, records, and guitars adorn the walls. Great blues played in the background. The food is decent, and very reasonably priced. I recommend for a chill brunch experience.

I was really looking forward to getting some soul food while visiting New York. I read the mixed reviews and decided to still try it out. But unfortunately the food was subpar. Everything in the shrimp plate I got was tasteless and had NO seasoning what so ever. Honestly, the food looked like high school cafeteria quality (small portioned and taste wise).

I wanted to support a local restaurant especially since I'm unable to walk. After I placed my order, I was excited about my meal. However, my food never arrived. I tried contacting Uber Eats to see where the driver is desoute my order said "delivered" but Uber eats has no email or number. So, I tried calling this restaurant but there's just a busy dial tone. Thanks for taking my money and tip. I am aware of the lockdown, but this is insane. I will never use Uber Eats or try this restaurant again.

Love black businesses but this is the most tasteless food I have ever tasted. I am not sure if we got them on a bad day or that’s just the service but the chicken, the rice, the cabbage taste really bland. We had 6 orders and all of them were delivered missing majority of the sides that we had paid for. This was quiet a DISAPPOINTMENT!!!

Nice family place. The meat loaf was excellent and I've never had better. The corn bread with a dab of butter melting into it was a nice finishing touch. Music playing in the background from a kinder gentler time gave a nice vibe. Staff was great

I always get the catfish and grits. Feels legit like your down south and your grandma cooked you some good food! Reasonable price too.

Southern cuisine at its finest. Small venue, big on taste. Being from the south, l discovered fish and grits at an early age, this is where I go to satisfy my fish and grits crave. Good cooking, also great collard greens, cornbread and candied yams all cooked in the Southern traditional way. Good Eating!

Their prices and portions are definitely worth it. But unfortunately I was a little disappointed with their mac n cheese. Some other reviews about it had me a little excited.I also had the chopped chicken which had lots of flavor. I would like to go back again some time and try other items on their menu.

We waited 25 minutes to get food. They never brought us water we had to ask twice. They gave me milk for my coffee, but the milk container barely had milk. We finished eating and they pretty much ignored us for another 25 minutes before we could get check and container to go food. yet we were in the middle of the small restaurant and people kept coming in to try to get seats, so I don't know how we were so ignored, no one checked on us if we needed anything else after we got our food..I heard another customer complain he never got his lemonade but they had tried to charge him for it on the bill. Another customer played his video game loudly next to us. but they didn't tell him to turn it down. The chairs have high handles and don't allow you to pull it close to under the table so my 4 year old had trouble getting close to table. The food was tasty but not worth this long wait. Also I ask for wheat bread and they gave me white.

Love this place my favorite spot for a low key breakfast in my neighborhood. A nice walk to some shrimp and waffles. I always end up ordering more shrimp it's sooo good!

This restaurant is a true gem in bedstuy. The food is delicious, filling and affordable. The chicken and waffles blow me away, and the whiting was crispy and yummy.

We have been ordering here for over a year. The catfish and whiting is by far the best cooked fish we have ever had. Perfectly cooked with the best taste and seasoning. And the sides are always wonderful. Ma-n-Pops leaves you scraping your plate at the end for more...every time!

Our people have to do better by us! You can spend a lot of money and support consistently and still not be valued. All customers should be treated with respect and care. Post Covid you think they would appreciate the customers more. They don’t seem capable of handling large orders without massive errors they also don’t seem to have management that can handle basic customer service. Decent food can only take you so far. Order at your own risk!

It's like eating at home...when you dont want to cook. The food is good.
